I think the composition on this piece is very good. You did a great job at drawing the figure in a 3/4 view. There are only a couple o...

Just Call Me "Quickdraw"!

Tue Aug 25, 2009, 6:59 PM
I have never been a fast penciller. I can ink pretty well, pretty fast, but when it comes to pencilling I have always been like, snail crawling uphill through molasses slow. It's not a "work turns out beautiful when I take a week on one panel" kind of slow either. It's a feeling similar to pulling teeth. Frustrating, destructive and painful. That's why I need to just let go and draw. I need to stop concentrating on what the lines look like and just put them down and move on.
Starting tonight I made a valiant effort to try to overcome my handicap by drawing more quickly than I have ever before. I completed a 9" by 12" fully inked pinup in under 2 hours. For me, that's like building a car in a day. And you know what? The piece came out no worse than if I would have taken the usual 5-6 hours to do it.
Check my gallery for the Power Girl entry, what I hope will be the first of many 2 hour or less drawings. This drawing was heavily influenced by Adam Hughes but that's the case with any female character I draw.

Hope you had a good time in NY. Never been there myself, but I always here good things. Any idea on when you might want to start the drawing group?
:iconhijinx-studios:
Had a great time! We have been before but Patterson and Wallkill are both amazing places no matter how often one may visit.
I am so glad you reminded me about the drawing group. We need to come up with a night, a time and a place that is convenient for all involved. I know that we have you , me, Meizi, and Cameron so far. Am I missing anyone?

Off the top of my head I can't really think of anyone, but other artists in our hall include: Jose, Hiromi, Ronny, Justin D., and I'm sure there are others. Not sure if any of them would be interested. You also mentioned perhaps getting some from other halls at times, that would be really nice.

Also I'd love to visit Bethel at some point.
